The Orient/East-Med Corridor

The intensified international interrelations of the EU countries with their neighbouring states lead to increasing transport volumes. These volumes are only partly manageable through single transport modes. Thus, there is a demand on border crossing multimodal corridors.

The Orient / East-Med Corridor belongs to the new core network corridors of the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T) and will connect Central Europe with the maritime interfaces – North and Baltic Sea as well as the Black Sea and the Mediterranean Sea. It also integrates the rail freight corridors 7 and 8 as well as the ERTMS-corridor E.

Thereby the corridor will support the development of the ports as important multimodal logistics platforms and will improve the connections of the most important economic centres to the coast.

The corridor includes the railway as well as the road connection and the inland waterway Elbe. It crosses nine EU Member States – Germany, Czech Republic, Slovak Republic, Austria, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Greece and Cyprus. Besides it provides a connection in the direction of Turkey.
